PAUL MARMOTA
Chilean DJ Paul Marmota has been consistently active in the European, and specifically Spanish, urban music scene.
Being born in Chile and later on moving to Mexico City, Marmota is not the typical subject of our reporting.
Normally, our focus lies on creatives who are mainly active in Europe, regardless of who they collaborate with overseas, possibly.
Nonetheless it might be interesting to take a look at the Chilean as a reverse case study for what we have witnessed often in Europe, namely a non European creative supplying his/her services to European artists.
He is mostly known in our continent's culture for his production for the Spanish label "La Vendicion", and in particular for rappers Yung Beef and Kaydy Cain, whom we have covered at length and multiple times on this platform.
Having been previously very well known in the electronic music scene, as his DJ activity gave him the possibility to play all over the world and to reach different types of crowds and prominent festivals, Paul eclectic combination of electronic sounds with latin ones, advertised themselves naturally, attracting the attention of many artists, globally.
Just like that, the producer found himself in a position to collaborate with the aforementioned Spanish artists, among which we can also add Mi$$il, El Mini and Bad Gyal, be it on his projects as well as theirs.
In fact, many of these mutual features are spread evenly among Paul's projects and theirs.
His first official EP, "Nueva", was released as early as 2013, jumpstarting his consistently active and lucrative career.
The combination of synthetic sounds with Caribbean-like percussion and rhythm, found even in this debut work, immediately set itself as the foundation for Paul's production style.
The follow-up to this effort would come in 2017 with "Adaptacion", which was immediately superseded in 2018's "Zona".
Later on, after a two year period in which much of the collaborations we listed happened, the sequel to Zona, aptly named "Zona 2" was released in 2020, which also added to the catalogue of link-ups.
In synthesis, Paul Marmota, with his international career, has been able to gift his club-ready sound to much of the prominent Spanish urban scene, making himself continuously interesting to a European audiences, as well as to those beyond the continent.
