VICCENS

Viccens has, in recent years, become one of the most interesting names to come out of the Dutch hip-hop scene.

Releasing numerous singles and projects, the Dutchman has been able to amass a notable fanbase in the past few years.

Having centred his release method around video material accompanying the music, Viccens has decided on investing in its quality for maximum exposure.

Alongside this investment on curating the overall aesthetic (which is to say everything around the music), the creative has relied on collaborations as a way to grow his catalogue, organically.

His first single, dating back to 2017,  "Drinkers and Stoners", was made in collaboration with Kingsta.

The next year, 2018, presented the release of his single "Go", which anticipated and was included in his first, self-titled, album.

2019 would be a very active year, in which he released the singles "Enchilada" and "Blacc Tee Muzik", as well as the two albums "Vlammenzee" and "Plons Vol.1".

That same year he released the LP  "Sophisticated Southside Playaz", in collaboration with Dj Oeker.

The Dutchman's sonic style is mostly influenced by more recent American trap, both in vocal and instrumental terms.

His beats are often on the minimal side and uptempo, built on 808 basses and melodies composed of synthesisers and sample chops.

He uses relaxed and pressing flows, which accentuate the rhythm of the song and are often sung with autotune.

In comparison to his national allegiance, Viccens' style is alternative and based on a particular aesthetic, inspired by the American developments of the late 2010s. Demeanor-wise, this also seems to be the case.
The more shy and reserved demeanor of European hip-hop is substituted by a much more braggadocious and balls-out approach.

The aforementioned video material also reflect this aesthetic, which is represented with special effects and vivid, flashy chromatic choices.

With his familiar collaborators, among which Dej, Kingsta, Tobi Black and Eijer, as well as his producers, among which Dj Oeker as well as Tobi Black, Styn and WK, Viccens has ultimately been able, through a much more faithful representation of the alluring American style of trap, to come to the very forefront of the Dutch underground scene.

The uniqueness that helped Viccens reach this position lies precisely in his attitude, which his growing fanbase is digging more and more.

Acknowledging this fact is what makes us think that he will, in the proximate future, escape notoriety in the underground, in favour of notoriety in the European mainstream.
